Meet Kellen Dieterich: Social Media Strategist & Consultant | Helping Brands Grow & Thrive Online

By Teresa Howes | Twine Featured Founder Interview

With nearly a decade of experience, Kellen Mcavoy Dieterich is a seasoned social media strategist and consultant based in San Diego. Through full-service ads management, social media strategy, influencer coordination, and one-on-one consulting, she helps new and established brands grow their visibility, make sales online, and build sustainable strategies that match their stage of business.

“Some of my clients need full-service support, and others just want someone in their corner to guide their existing team. I love customizing my work to meet them where they’re at.”

Kellen’s background spans agencies, in-house marketing teams, and freelance consulting—giving her a broad lens on what it takes to build effective, results-driven social media campaigns across industries including e-commerce, fashion, wellness, B2B, and hospitality.

From Agency Life to Entrepreneurship

While working at a San Diego-based marketing agency, Kellen was inspired by the entrepreneurial journeys of her mentors and peers. In 2017, she made the leap from W2 employee to founder, leaning on her network to launch her business.

“It was scary to go out on my own, but I knew I wanted a career that gave me the flexibility to build my life on my terms. I always envisioned a career that would allow me to be there for my family, and this path made it possible.”

Kellen now balances motherhood with running her own business—a career move that gives her the freedom to choose her clients, set her schedule, and focus on building long-term partnerships.

The Joys and Challenges of Being the Boss

Flexibility and autonomy are two of Kellen’s favorite parts of entrepreneurship. But like many founders, she’s not in love with every aspect of the job.

“I hate the backend of the business. Taxes, payroll, operations—that part was a steep learning curve. I’ve hired an accountant and built out systems, but those were things I had to learn from scratch.”

She also notes that constant changes in the social media landscape require agility and ongoing strategy refreshes—a unique challenge in her field that she now turns into a service advantage for her clients.

Collaboration Over Competition

Kellen has built a strong referral-based business, thanks in large part to the community she’s stayed connected with over the years. Many of her former agency colleagues are now business owners, too—and they continue to support each other by sharing clients, collaborating on projects, and trading insights.

“We’ve all built our own businesses, and we help each other constantly. It’s not competitive—it’s collaborative. We all specialize in different things, so there’s always someone to lean on.”

What’s Next: Scaling with Intention

After nearly 8 years in business, Kellen is focused on scaling. She’s exploring ways to grow beyond day-to-day management through paid workshops, group consulting, and community-based offerings that still allow her to deliver value without trading time for money.

“My word for the year is scale. I want to find ways to serve more clients without burning out. I’m thinking about hosting timely workshops or even building a membership community with access to on-demand strategy support.”

Prosper. Revel. Thrive.

Kellen’s services help business owners reclaim their time, improve their confidence, and get real results from social media.

“Most people know they have to be on social media, but they’re overwhelmed or unsure how to show up. I love helping people feel excited about their strategy—and watching them gain traction, visibility, and joy.”
