Meet Genevieve Williamson: Helping High Achievers Get Unstuck and Move Forward
By Teresa Howes | Twine Featured Founder Interview
Sometimes the biggest obstacle standing between us and the life we want isn’t a lack of talent, ambition, or opportunity. It’s a story we’ve been telling ourselves for years.
For Genevieve Williamson, founder of GCW Mindset Coach, helping people identify and rewrite those stories is at the heart of her work. As a mindset coach and certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) practitioner, she works with high-achieving individuals who feel stuck despite having all the ingredients for success.
Whether someone is struggling with a career transition, navigating a personal challenge, building a business, or simply feeling unable to move forward, Genevieve helps them uncover the unconscious beliefs creating resistance and develop a path forward that aligns with who they truly are.
As she describes it:
“I always see tires stuck in mud. Like you just can’t quite get there. You’re spinning your wheels and you know you’re trying to go someplace, but you can’t quite get there and you don’t know why.”
For Genevieve, that feeling of being stuck isn’t a sign that something is wrong. It’s often an invitation to look deeper.
A Soft Entry Into Self-Awareness
Genevieve begins her coaching process with the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a tool she has studied extensively through her background in Industrial-Organizational Psychology and executive coaching.
While many people have taken a Myers-Briggs assessment at some point, few have experienced the depth of insight that comes from working through the results with a trained practitioner.
“It just brings in a layer of self-awareness. The real deeper work is identifying the unconscious stories that keep people stuck.”
She describes the MBTI as a “soft entry” into personal growth. Rather than immediately diving into deeply vulnerable conversations, clients begin by gaining a clearer understanding of how they naturally process information, make decisions, communicate, and navigate the world.
That understanding often becomes the foundation for meaningful transformation.
“People just feel really seen when they do it.”
In addition to her five-month coaching program, Genevieve also offers standalone MBTI Step Two assessments. These 90-minute sessions provide an in-depth exploration of personality preferences and can be particularly valuable for career exploration, confidence building, leadership development, and major life transitions.
When Life Forces a New Chapter
Like many entrepreneurs, Genevieve’s path wasn’t linear. After graduate school, she built a successful decade-long career working with a consulting firm focused on solutions to reduce homelessness. She enjoyed the work and the stability that came with it.
Then life changed.
The pandemic shifted both work and priorities. Not long after, Genevieve experienced a series of profound losses that reshaped everything she thought she knew about her future. What followed was a period of survival, healing, and rebuilding.
She leaned into tools she had long known were valuable but had never fully integrated into her daily life. Journaling. Meditation. Coaching. Reflection. And slowly, something unexpected began to emerge.
“If I can get through this really most terrible time of my life that I didn’t know at some points if I was going to make it through, then I can literally do anything.”
The experience changed how she viewed fear, risk, and possibility.
The Story That Was Holding Her Back
Long before she became a coach, Genevieve had another dream.
She had always wanted to help people. Whether through therapy, executive coaching, or personal development work, supporting others had been the thread connecting her entire career.
Yet there was one story she couldn’t seem to shake.
“I told myself this story my whole life that I’m not an entrepreneur.”
Even as she felt increasingly called toward building something of her own, she believed entrepreneurship wasn’t suited for her personality.
Ironically, the very work she now does with clients helped her recognize that belief for what it was: a story, not a fact.
Today, she teaches clients that self-awareness isn’t about putting yourself in a box. It’s about understanding how to create conditions that allow you to succeed.
“It’s not that you can’t do it. It’s understanding how to do it in a way that fits your personality preferences.”
For Genevieve, that meant embracing structure, seeking support, and hiring a business coach rather than trying to force herself into an approach that didn’t fit.
The lesson became one she now shares with others every day.
The Power of Connection
Ask Genevieve what she loves most about her work, and the answer comes quickly.
People.
More specifically, meaningful one-on-one connection.
“Connecting with a person just is everything to me.”
Coaching allows her to create space for honest conversations, deeper self-awareness, and transformational moments that often change the way clients see themselves.
And while entrepreneurship comes with its share of challenges, those moments make the difficult days worthwhile.
“When someone says to me, ‘Oh my God, that was really helpful,’ it’s the best. It makes every hard moment worth it.”
Of course, she is quick to acknowledge that entrepreneurship isn’t always easy.
Marketing, visibility, self-doubt, and imposter syndrome continue to show up, just as they do for many founders.
But one of the most important lessons she has learned is that even coaches need coaches.
“I can’t see my own stories. Someone has to tell me my stuff too.”
Growth, she believes, is not a destination. It’s an ongoing practice.
Building What’s Next
Genevieve is currently developing a new workshop called Wired to Win, designed to help participants better understand motivation through the lens of personality preferences.
The workshop will explore how different personality types approach goals, what motivates them, and how underlying stories can either support or sabotage progress.
For Genevieve, it’s also an exciting opportunity to introduce more people to the work she loves.
“I knew I wanted to do something like this, and then this idea just hit me. It was one of those moments where you’re like, ‘Yes, that’s it.'”
It’s the next evolution of a business built around helping people understand themselves more deeply and move through life with greater confidence and clarity.
